Gábor Orbán is Chief Executive Officer of Gedeon Richter Plc. He began his career as an economist at the Hungarian National Bank and the European Central Bank. He later worked as a portfolio manager and head of fixed income at Aegon Asset Management.

Between 2013 and 2015, he served as State Secretary for Tax and Financial Affairs at the Ministry for National Economy. In 2015, he joined Rothschild & Co in Paris, contributing to financial advisory services in the banking sector. Mr Orbán holds degrees from the Budapest University of Economic Sciences and pursued further studies in the United States.

He joined Gedeon Richter Plc. in 2016 as Director of Strategy, became a member of the Board of Directors in 2017, and was appointed CEO later that year. Under his leadership, Richter has achieved significant international growth, particularly in the US and European markets. The company’s strategy has focused on expanding its women’s healthcare portfolio and advancing biotechnology and innovative therapies. Today, Richter continues to strengthen its global presence by exploring new geographic regions and product segments.

Mr Orbán is a member of several professional organisations. He has served on the Stock Exchange Advisory Board since 2017, chairs the Foundation for National Healthcare and Medical Education, and joined the Trilateral Commission Europe in 2024.

In recognition of his leadership and contribution to Richter’s international success, he was named MostInspiring CEO of the Year in 2024, based on PwC Hungary’s CEO Survey.

In 2025, he received the Knight’s Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit and the Wahrmann Mór Medal  for his outstanding achievements in the Hungarian economy and healthcare sector.
